Privacy Policy
1. Scope and Purpose
This Privacy Policy applies to Crop & Record Any Screen Area: Custom Webpage Screen Recorder, referred to in this policy as “Crop & Record,” “the extension,” “we,” or “us.”
Crop & Record allows users to select and record a specific visual area of the active browser tab. Users can pause recording, reposition or resize the selected area, change the recording area, resume recording, and save the completed recording as an MP4 file.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension accesses or processes, how that information is used, how long it is retained, and what choices are available to users.
This policy applies only to Crop & Record. It does not apply to the privacy practices of websites viewed through Google Chrome or to Google Chrome itself.
2. Information Processed by the Extension
Selected Webpage Visuals
When the user starts a recording, Crop & Record temporarily accesses the visual stream of the active browser tab and processes only the rectangular area selected by the user.
The selected area may contain text, images, videos, presentations, dashboards, user generated content, or other information displayed on the webpage.
Crop & Record processes this content only for the purpose of creating the requested recording.
Available Tab Audio
If the active browser tab provides an audio track, Crop & Record can include that audio in the recording.
Tab audio may contain music, speech, communications, or other sounds played by the active tab. Audio is not spatially cropped because the selected recording area applies to visual content only.
Temporary Recording and Session Information
To provide the recording functionality, the extension may temporarily process:
• Selected crop coordinates and dimensions
• The temporary Chrome tab identifier
• Recording status and timing information
• Temporary encoded video data
• The completed local MP4 Blob
The extension may check whether the active page uses a supported HTTP or HTTPS address. It does not create, retain, or transmit a browsing history.
Information Not Independently Collected
Any information appear within webpage content that the user intentionally chooses to record. However, the recording itself is processed locally and is not transmitted to the developer.
3. How Information Is Used
The extension uses processed information only to provide its recording functionality, including:
• Displaying the recording area selector
• Capturing the selected browser tab
• Cropping and resizing visual content
• Including available tab audio
• Supporting pause and resume functionality
• Supporting changes to the selected recording area
• Encoding the recording as an MP4
• Initiating Chrome’s file saving process
Crop & Record does not use recording data for advertising, profiling, personalization, analytics, artificial intelligence training, surveillance, creditworthiness decisions, lending, or other unrelated purposes.
4. Local Processing and Network Activity
Recording, cropping, encoding, and preparation of the MP4 file are performed locally in Chrome on the user’s device.
Crop & Record does not upload recordings, selected webpage content, tab audio, session information, or usage information to developer operated servers.
The extension relies on Chrome and the user’s operating system for browser APIs, media functionality, memory, encoding, and file saving. Those components are subject to their respective terms and privacy practices.
5. Data Sharing and Sale
Crop & Record does not sell, rent, license, disclose, or transfer recording data or personal information to advertising networks, data brokers, analytics providers, or other third parties.
Because recording data is processed locally and is not transmitted to the developer, the developer and its personnel do not receive or have access to users’ recordings.
User data is not used or transferred for personalized advertising, retargeting, creditworthiness decisions, or lending purposes.
The resulting MP4 file is saved locally on the user’s device at the user’s direction.
6. Storage and Retention
During Recording
Temporary source media, canvas frames, and encoded recording chunks may be held in browser memory while the recording is in progress.
Session Information
Temporary crop coordinates, tab information, recording status, and timing information may be stored using Chrome session storage.
This information is intended to exist only for the recording session and is removed when the recording is completed or cancelled.
After Recording
A temporary local Blob URL may be used to initiate the MP4 save process. The temporary URL is revoked after the save process is initiated.
Saved Recordings
An MP4 file saved through Chrome remains on the user’s device until the user moves or deletes it.
Crop & Record does not maintain a separate server side copy of saved recordings.
7. Chrome Permissions
Crop & Record uses the following Chrome permissions to provide its functionality:
activeTab: Allows temporary access to the browser tab where the user activates the extension.
scripting: Allows the extension to inject its packaged recording interface after the user explicitly starts the feature.
tabCapture: Allows the extension to obtain the media stream of the active browser tab after the user initiates recording.
offscreen: Allows local video, canvas, audio, and MediaRecorder processing that cannot remain active inside a Manifest V3 service worker.
downloads: Allows the extension to initiate Chrome’s file saving process for the completed MP4.
storage: Allows temporary session information required to operate the recorder.
Crop & Record does not request broad host permissions, browsing history permissions, cookies, identity, location, microphone, camera, or notification permissions.
8. User Choice and Control
Recording begins only after the user activates the extension, selects a recording area, and starts recording.
During recording, users can pause, resume, reposition or resize the selected area, select a new area, stop and save the recording, or cancel the recording.
Available tab audio is included automatically when an audio track is available from the active tab.
Users control their saved MP4 files through Chrome and their operating system. Uninstalling the extension removes extension controlled local data but does not automatically delete MP4 files previously saved by the user.
9. Security
Crop & Record is designed to reduce data exposure by processing recordings locally, using narrowly scoped Chrome permissions, avoiding developer operated recording servers, and keeping executable code within the extension package.
No software or storage system can guarantee absolute security. Users should review recordings for sensitive or confidential information and protect saved files appropriately.
10. Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Crop & Record’s use of information received from Chrome APIs is intended to comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Information accessed by the extension is used only to provide the extension’s user facing screen recording functionality.
Recording data is not sold or transferred to third parties, used for unrelated purposes, used for advertising, made available for human review, or used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
11. Privacy Requests
Because Crop & Record does not transmit or maintain recording content on developer operated servers, the developer generally does not possess a server side copy of a user’s recordings.
Users can manage or delete recordings saved on their own devices and can uninstall the extension through Chrome.
For privacy questions concerning the extension, users can contact the developer using the contact information below.
12. Recording Consent and User Responsibility
Users are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary rights and permissions to record the content they capture.
Users should comply with applicable copyright, privacy, confidentiality, workplace, recording consent, wiretap, platform, and other applicable laws and rules.
Crop & Record is not intended to bypass access controls, paywalls, digital rights management systems, or other technical restrictions imposed by websites or content providers.
13. Children’s Privacy
Crop & Record is a general purpose productivity tool and is not specifically directed toward children under 13.
The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because recording content is processed locally and is not transmitted to the developer, the developer does not maintain user profiles or accounts based on recording activity.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if the extension’s functionality, data practices, legal requirements, or Chrome Web Store requirements change.
